After the junior team had got the club off to a great start at the Wiltshire county championships, the senior swimmers took their turn at aiming for glory.

Leading the way with 5 golds and silver out of 6 swims was Gabriella Doughty who dominated the backstroke events in the 15 year old girl’s age group taking all 3 titles and added the 50 FC and 100 Fly to her collection. Gabriella also took the junior championship in all the backstroke events as well as the Championship title in the 200 back for a clean sweep of medals.

Tigersharks have strength in depth in the 15 year old girls age group and they displayed this to great effect as Sophie Walker also took the clean sweep in the 100 IM winning the 15 years, junior and Championship titles in this event, despite battling illness throughout the competition, and Emily Preedy took her first county title winning gold in the 200 freestyle. Matilda Hart and Poppy Turner also won medals in this age group as Tigersharks packed the finals.

Grace Osman showed her distance pedigree with a superb swim in the girls 400IM as she fought off all competition to win the 14 years age group and take second in the junior and Championship and Laure Edwards, fighting a knee injury, battled her way to bronze in the 17 years 100IM.

For the boys, James Andrew had a great championships with 4 gold medals in the 14 years age group across a multitude of events. His new personal best in the 400 FC was also good enough to take the junior title. Ryan Lawrence had a battle on his hands in the 14 years backstroke event triumphing in the 100 backstroke as he was edged out in the other distances.

Harvie Greenwood took his first county title in the 16 years 400 FC and Marshall Fitchett made it a 1-2 in this event taking the silver medal. Marshall also went on to win 3 further silver medals in his preferred fly events. Sam Dubarry also got on the podium with some strong backstroke swimming and made some big advances in his other events, most notably his first sub 60 100FC.

Not to be out done, Ed Smith showed he is developing into a fine breaststroker with a silver and 2 bronzes in the 15 year old breaststroke events and silver in the 200 breaststroke junior championship.

After a weekend off Tigersharks were back in action with the reverse long distance events. This gives the boys a shot at the 800m FC and the girls take on the longest event in the pool, the 1500m FC.

The boys got things off to a great star with gold medals in every age group from 12-16 years, Alfie Smithson (12), James Andrew (14), Ed Smith (15) and Marshall Fitchett (16) all winning their age groups. When you add that James also won the junior championship, Harvie Greenwood and Sam Dubarry made it a 1-2-3 for Tigersharks in the 16 year old age group and that Tigersharks took 2,3 and 4 in the Championship, it was a very strong set of results.

The girls continued the winning ways with Isabella Thomson winning the 12 years age group and Emily Preedy winning the 15 years age group and to go one better than the boys they took 4 of the top 6 places in the Championship results.

Overall, Tigersharks have hit the ground running in 2018 with a great Wiltshire Championships and the team will look to build on this throughout 2018.
