Tigersharks shine at 2010 Separated Medley Meet

Tigersharks showed their strength and depth this weekend at the Separated Medley Meet. With swimmers coming from far and wide this year the competition was stiff but Tigersharks rose to the challenge through the four disciplines in their efforts to make the grand finals. 22 Tigershark swimmers were placed in the finals with at least one swimmer in each age group both girl and boy.

9year old Abbie Crook was placed 4th going into the final but rocketed to overall 2nd place following a great 100m IM swim. Callum Davidson swam outstandingly well to make the final and although finishing 6th produced PB times on all 5 swims. 10year olds Rebecca Maddocks and Momoko Takahashi were both in outstanding form.

They battled with each other throughout the competition and produced a scintillating final swimming stroke for stroke to the finish of the 200m IM. Both girls clocked huge PB times leaving the field decimated with Rebecca touching home just .35 infront of Momoko. Daniel Jones had been in his own personal battle throughout the competition with Billy Martin of Maxwell. Both boys had taken two events each and the 200m final came down to a final sprint finish with Martin out touching Jones by just .04 in a time of 2:54.27. In the same age group Alex Boxhall swam to great PB times to make the final and finish in a very creditable 5th place overall. Rebecca Cook who struggles with sprint events swam superbly to produce PB in all four 50m events to place her 6th going into the final. However she came into her own over the longer event as she screeched through the field to just miss out on first place to take a well deserved 2nd taking nearly 10 seconds off her PB time. The 11year old boys are a very strong age group for Tigersharks and the final saw three boys feature. Conor Keye stormed into 2nd place in an enormous PB closely followed by Craig Harris who also sliced his PB time. Sami Donmez fought for every place as he pulled himself up from 6th to 5th in an outstanding swim. Georgia Pearce (12years) seems to have turned a corner and pulled out five huge PB’s and a well deserved 3rd place in the grand final for her age group and teammate Freya Weston also swam very well to take 5th place in the same age group. Alexander Eburne (12years) battled Tom Codling throughout the four 50m swims but had to succumb to 2nd place in the final. However he swam extremely well all day. 13year old Georgie Manning & Rebecca Hussey both swam at the top of their form in all 50m events and again in the final to take 4th & 5th place respectively. Elliot Willoughby and Jake Hancock (13years) swam very well all day. Willoughby produced four incredible 50m swims to place him first going into the final, he then astonished his team mates as he ploughed through the field to finish over 6 seconds ahead of the 2nd place swimmer. An unwell Jake Hancock stuck in there to swim incredibly well to take 4th place overall, stamping down some excellent 50m times on the way. Tigersharks 14year old girls dominated the final 200m IM, out swimming the other finalists they finished as 1st Ella Luffman, 2nd Charlotte Langley & 3rd Michaela Boniface with all three girls setting 5 new PB times each. The 14year & Over boys was dominated from start to finish by Jacob Roberts (17years) who was in outstanding form. With 4 x 50m PB times he then stamped his authority on the 200m IM winning by over 11 seconds with his 5th PB. Kyle Gaskin also 15 swam to yet another 5 PB times to take 5th place in the grand final, showing his strength over all four strokes. Melissa Glass (15years) finished off the Tigersharks fantastic run, swam a superb final in the girls 15year & OV to easily take 3rd place.

Jack Patey, Ben Jones, Thomas Ryczanowski, Rebecca Flack, Bethany Wakefield, Megan Campbell, Samantha Reeves & Lucy Gotta were all thwarted at the last hurdle to become 1st reserves. However all of them swam outstandingly well producing some great PB swims on the way.
