Wiltshire BagCat Competition 2010
Despite claims from certain quarters that this was going to be a two-horse competition it certainly did not turn out that way. Many clubs provided superb swimmers throughout the competition leaving that statement to be argued!
Tigersharks in particular produced some stunning performances despite injuries and a nasty flue bug that was sweeping the club.
Abbie Crook who just turned 9 years in February was the Star of the Tigersharks girl performers as she was placed in a medal position in all the events she entered with the exception of the 50m Fly. Abbie swam some outstanding times, her Breaststroke putting her just 0.17 seconds off next year’s Regional qualifying time with many others very close to the 10-year-old times. After a superb weekends competition she was also crowned the overall BagCat Category winner for the 9year old girls.
Rebecca Maddocks (10) also had a superb competition stamping her authority on five events to take gold and placing in the top three in nine events. Rebecca now has a complete set of Regional Qt’s and is knocking on the door of next year’s times as well. To finish off an outstanding two weekends of competition Rebecca was just inched into 2nd place in the overall Age Group.
Momoko Takahashi (10) looks set to emulate her sister and she left the others in her wake in the three events and snatched top three medals in six events. Her 400m Ind. Medley swim saw her screech 3 seconds inside the 11year old Regional QT (34 seconds inside the 10 year old QT) making her a real prospect for NQT’s next year. She also landed 5th place in the overall 10 year old table. Momoko is now the proud holder of 7 Regional QT’s for this year’s competition.
Abigail Davidson is simply ‘Flying’ at the moment as she bagged medals in all three Butterfly events taking gold against many swimmers soon to be 12yrs in the 100m event. She also landed four new Regional QT’s throughout the weekend.
Aiko Takahashi continued on a high from her three New NQT’s as she scooped 12 medals from 12 events. Against some very strong competition from Daniella Whiting and Chloe Flower, Aiko 50m & 100m FC and 100m BK, 2nd place in a further 8 events and 3rd in the last. Aiko also placed a magnificent 2nd in the overall 12-year girl’s competition.
Rebecca Cook swam superbly well in a horribly tough age group landing a silver medal in the 200m BR and cracking both her 100m & 200m BR Regional QT’s in the process.
Georgia Pearce swam a strong competition and careered to a great silver medal in the 50m BR despite being off school all week with a chest infection.
Top of the crop for the boy’s performances was 10 year old Daniel Jones who had quite badly injured his ankle during the week and yet still managed to scoop an eleven-medal haul, six Gold, four silver and one bronze. This amazing total afforded him the overall top 10year old boy in the BagCat competition. He also has amassed 9 Regional QT’s for this year competition in June.
Another or our up and coming swimmers who had to battle through illness was 9year old Ross Kennedy. Having blitzed the 200m Butterfly event in the previous weekend taking Gold and his first regional QT for 2010 he was struck down with a nasty ear infection, which really hampered his performance during the last weekend’s events. However he still managed to take a further silver and bronze medal and scoop fifth place in the overall BagCat competition.
Matthew Magness was in his usual top form for the first weekend but as with many of his teammates was very unwell for the second weekend. He fought his way to one gold in the 50m BK and five bronze medals throughout the competition finishing a creditable sixth in the BagCat competition for 14 year olds.
Jake Hancock (13) who is proving to be quite an accomplished Backstroke swimmer careered to the Gold medal in the 200m BK event cracking his Regional QT on the way and also scooped a further 2 bronze medals on the way.
Conor Keye is a fast improving 11 year old. He notched up his first ever regional QT in the 200m BR as he swam to a superb time and the bronze medal, while team mate Alex Eburne (also fighting illness for two weeks) took bronze medals in two events. Elliot Willoughby is improving with every swim at the moment and he proved his worth as he landed 4 bronze medals to his bag and fourth place spot in the BagCat Competition closely followed by team mate Jake Hancock in fifth.
Ryan Gooch put on a great show as he pocketed three bronze medals and sixth place overall in the 10-year-old competition. Chris Chapman, Alexander Boxall, Daniel Broad-Drake and Kyle Gaskin all netted medals for their efforts over the two weekends. Chapman & Gaskin landing two Regional QT’s each in the process.
A great finish to this years Wiltshire Competition where Tigershark swimmers have performed outstandingly well in both the Youth and BagCat events.
