German selected for Talent Development Programme

Following his recent outstanding swim at the National Festival of Open Water, where he narrowly missed a Bronze Medal, Kieron German has been selected for the Regional Talent development Programme for Open water.

The camps will be held at the new Cardiff International 50m Pool and he will be joined by other outstanding Open water swimmers. There will be three camps held throughout the current year where the swimmers will be encouraged and guided in the art of Open Water Swimming.

Open Water swimming is fast becoming a world renowned event and is definitely not for the feint hearted. At the Olympics in August Great Britain showed its strength when we produced 3 medal winners.

Quite often swum in very cold water in horrible conditions the swimmers do not have the usual comfort of their own lane and clear water. It is a fast, furious and often hazardous sport with swimmers jostling, bumping and kicking to get where they want to be.

Kieron, a relative newcomer to the sport learnt very quickly at the National Age Groups that being polite and considerate will loose you a medal…… but putting this aside he swam an outstanding race in what was only his third outing at Open Water.

Having also competed in the 3000m Frontcrawl at the National Youth Competition in August where he achieved 6th place, German has clearly found his niche in swimming.
