Tigersharks increase their tally of 2008 National Qualifiers

Tigersharks 12 year old Briony Merritt produced her first National Qualifying time for 2008 when she powered to a time of 2:35.18 in the 200m Backstroke at the Swim Swansea LC Open Meet on Sunday. She had been disappointed the previous day to miss her 800m FC time having produced an 11-second personal best time. She is now full of confidence and hopes to secure more times at the Tigersharks Last Chance meet next weekend and the BagCat Regional Competition in June.

This will be Briony’s second consecutive year at the National Competition and will be a fitting send off for Briony and her family as they emigrate to Canada during the summer holidays.

After a huge disappointment at the Youth Regional Competition where he missed three NQT’s by less than a second, Aaron Lee is thrilled to learn that he has qualified for his third consecutive National Competition as part of the boys 4 x 100m Medley Relay team where he will be swimming the Backstroke leg. He also still has an opportunity to add to this event with the 100m BK and 100m Fly at the Tigersharks last Chance meet this weekend.

Sophie Hawkins was in top form as she notched up her 4th NQT in the 400m FC at the Swim Swansea LC Open Meet.  This was a great performance following her ankle injury, which hampered her Regional competition. Sophie was also thrilled to hear that, along with her Sx3 team mates Mel Agius, Tilly Grey & Elizabeth Beckett, she had qualified for the Girls  4 x 100m and 4 x 200m FC Relay Team and 4 x 100m Medley Relay Team at this years National Competition. Sophie will have a busy week with seven events to compete in but she is looking forward to swimming them all.

Alex Jones and Dean Williamson were also delighted to hear that they had made the 4 x 100m Medley team for this years National Competition. Both Boys have a very busy programme this year but are excited about swimming as part of the Sx3 team along with Aaron Lee (above) and Cathel Westman of Swindon Dolphin.  The relay team will swim on the last day of the National Competition.
