Tigersharks are Top of the Crop!

Tigershark BAGCAT swimmers were in astonishing form at the final block of the Wiltshire Age Group Competition. The young sharks stormed to the top of the medal table and in doing so they also broke more Age Group, Junior and Championship records than any other Wiltshire club.

Tigersharks won 69 Gold to the next team Swindon Dolphins who won 41.

Tigersharks led the way from the start of the weekend. In the 100m Butterfly event Tigersharks notched wins from Hayley Towner (12), Stacey Wood and Dean Williamson both 13 years. True to form the young sharks once again dominated the backstroke event. Over 200m the sharks took gold in seven age groups also breaking 3 Age Group best times. The Age group best times came from Briony Merritt (9) & Kane Baker (9) and Joshua Wheeler (10), whilst their team mates snatching gold were Rosemary Broad (10) Natalie Montezuma (13), Matthew Jones (12) and Arron Lee (14). Silver medals went to Cory Lotter (11) and a superb time by James Magness saw him take silver in the thirteen year age group.

Tigersharks swim of the weekend came in the 200 frontcrawl when ten year old Joshua Wheeler breezed to victory in an outstanding time of 2:25.73. Joshua recorded his first National Qualifying time for 2005. His time secures his entry into both the 100 and 200m Frontcrawl events at this years National Competition. Other Tigershark wins in this event came from Rosemary Broad (10), Stacey Wood (14) and Alex Jones (13). Jones proved his dominance in this event when he swam three seconds inside the National Qualifying time to record the fastest time by a Bagcat swimmer on the day. In the 50 frontcrawl the sharks remained a strong force with wins from Sophie Roberts (9) and Matthew Jones (12), these two swimmers also took Age Group best times. Joshua Wheeler (10), Alex Jones (13) and Aaron Lee (14) also took gold in superb swims.

In the 50m Breaststroke Lauren Jones (10) and Frankie Peters (14) led the way for the sharks taking gold medals.

Tigershark swimmers have always been strong over the arduous swims and in the 400m Individual medley both the girls and boys were out in force. In the Girls 10 years age group Tigersharks forged to a Gold, Silver and Bronze trio with Rosemary Broad, Lauren Jones and Amy Thrush flying the flag for the team. The twelve year old girls matched this with Hayley Towner storming to Gold, Sophie Hawkins to silver and Siobhan Tierney to Bronze. In the boys once again ten year old Joshua Wheeler proved too strong for the rest as did Matthew Jones (12).

In the boys 100m Backstroke Tigersharks took all three age groups with ease. Mathew Jones (12), Alex Jones (13) and a fabulous swim from Aaron Lee (14) saw him take the gold medal and edge closer to his NQT. Natalie Montezuma continued her dominance of the girls 13 year backstroke event cruising to victory.

In the 100m Individual Medley there was still no stopping the onslaught of the Tigersharks team. Sophie Roberts (9) smashed another Age Group Best time on her way to the gold medal as did team mate Lauren Jones (10). Matthew Jones (12) also took yet another Age Group Best time with his gold medal, while Alex Jones (13) and Aaron Lee (14) left the other swimmers in no doubt who were the fastest swimmers in their age group.

In the boys 200m Breaststroke. Frankie Peters (14) and Dean Williamson (13) were again dominant in their age group and were untroubled as they cruised to victory both in Age Group best times with Williamson once again sailing close to another NQT. Lauren Jones took gold with team mate Rosemary Broad the silver. Natalie Montezuma and Hannah Brown (13) took silver and bronze respectively in their age group

In the 400m Frontcrawl the sharks stamped their authority all over the event leaving swimmers in their wash… Kane Baker (9) took gold, followed by Joshua Wheeler (10) who in another outstanding swim only missed his third National Qualifying time by just over a second. Matthew Jones (12) and Alex Jones (13) were untroubled in their respective age groups. In the girls event Rosemary Broad demolished the other ten year olds coming home in first place by a twenty second margin. However team mates Lauren Jones and Eleanor Hussey made it a 1,2, 3 when they took the silver and bronze medal. Sophie Hawkins (12) destroyed her age group when she took the race on from the start and never looked back winning by a clear 6 seconds. Siobhan Tierney snatched a great bronze in a final push over the last 15 meters. With bronze medals from Stacey Wood, Aaron Lee, Dean Williamson, Eddie Donmez and a great Silver from Frankie Peters. Tigersharks were clearly the outstanding team at the distance events.

In the last event of the weekend the 50m Butterfly the best swim came from Aaron Lee (14) when he blasted to victory in 29.12 seconds, brushing aside all of the competition. Matthew Jones also took Gold as did his younger sister Lauren (10). Cory Lotter (11) snatched a great silver as did Dean Williamson (13) joined by his team-mate James Magness (13) who took the bronze.

Tigersharks concluded the competition by winning the most of the British Age Group Categories Awards.
