Wiltshire Moonraker Winter League – Champions 2008

Wiltshire Moonraker Winter League - Champions 2008Tigersharks Top Again! Tigersharks swimmers were topping the league tables again as they retained the Wiltshire Moonraker Winter League Trophy last night.

Tigersharks proved to be too strong for any of the other teams competing in the top gala and by mid-way through the competition they never looked back.

It was a fantastic event with electronic timing in place to ensure the spectators could see the winners even in the tightest of races.
Tigersharks U/13 year old Girls - Michaela Boniface, Melissa Glass, Emily Weston, Briony Merritt & Sophie Roberts were in top form taking all of the 12 year old girls races with relative ease. The U/17 year old boys – Kieron German, Matthew Jones, James Magness, Alex Jones & Dean Williamson were not out performed by their young team mates as they stormed to victory in all of their events by huge margins. The Open Girls then matched the U/13 girls and U/17 boys by taking all of their events - Jaime King, Jazmin Carlin, Natalie Montezuma, Laura Young, Briony Merritt, Stacey Wood & Sophie Hawkins made up the fantastic Open swimmers. The Boys shone as they snatched victory in every single Squadron / Cannon event. A highlight of the evening was when the Open Boys 4 x 50m Backstroke team of James Magness, Alex Jones, Dean Williamson & Aaron Lee cruised to victory over Swindon Dolphins very strong Open Men’s team denying Dolphins a win in all four of their Open Men’s events. Aaron Lee, who has fought back from a terrible fracture injury to his Clavicle & sternum in December, produced a 27.36 final leg to ensure they would not be caught.

Tigersharks amassed a massive18 first places and 14 second places in the 39 event gala. This proved far too much for any of the other competing teams.

Meanwhile Tigersharks ‘B’ battled hard, with 7 swimmers missing, to take third place in Division 3. Wroughton ‘A’ were a dominant team to finish in first and Tigersharks ‘B’ were piped by Wootton Basset ‘A’ who came in second place. Once again certain Tigersharks age groups shone. U/13 girls of Charlotte Langley, Rebecca Healy, Gina Popal, Loran Stone & Ella Luffman and the U/17 Boys of Daniel Butt, Connor Shakles, Andrew Hitchcox, Tom Ryczanowski and Tim Newcombe dominated all of the events in their age groups.
